What are NFA Items?

Items regulated under the National Firearms Act (NFA) include suppressors (silencers), short-barreled rifles (SBRs), short-barreled shotguns (SBSs), and "Any Other Weapons" (AOWs), etc. These items are classified as "Title II" firearms and require a specific federal registration process. To own one, a buyer must submit an application to the ATF (Form 4 for transfers or Form 1 for manufacturing), undergo a comprehensive background check that includes fingerprinting, passport photos, and receive federal approval before taking possession.

Legality in Nevada

It is a common misconception that silencers are restricted in our state. Silencers are 100% legal to own and use in Nevada. Under Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS 202.350), it is lawful to possess, purchase, or sell a silencer as long as it is registered in compliance with federal law. At Zero Mike Firearms, we specialize in facilitating the sales and transfers for our customers.

The 2026 $0 Tax Stamp Update

Effective January 1, 2026, the long-standing $200 federal tax stamp fee for suppressors, SBRs, SBSs, and AOWs has been eliminated. Although the financial barrier posed by the tax has been removed, the registration process and background check requirements remain.

Important Note on Processing Times: With the $200 fee eliminated, the industry is seeing a surge in NFA applications. Although eForm processing has become significantly faster in recent years, the high volume of new applicants in 2026 may cause unpredictable ATF processing delays. We recommend starting your paperwork as early as possible to secure your place in the federal queue.
